I went through a phase where I would mail the governments postage paid envelopes to coworkers in the surrounding cubes around me. The envelopes contained nothing. The comment’s they made upon opening the envelopes was priceless.
One time I was on a zoom meeting and one of my coworkers thought she was muted and she started talking bad about our boss as she was conducting the meeting. My boss kept talking to see if she would keep talking.. and she did. It was crazy.
So a few weeks ago, we had a big all-hands Zoom meeting — full company, execs, new hires, everyone.
I was supposed to share my screen for a quick project update. Easy, right?
Except… instead of sharing my project slides, I accidentally shared a text thread I had open on my laptop.
Specifically, a group chat with two of my coworkers
And on my screen there were visibly texts like:
“If Joe says ‘circle back’ one more time I’m throwing myself into the printer.”
“I’m convinced half our meetings could be solved with one (1) brain cell and an email.”
“How do I get promoted to professional lurker?? Asking for a friend.”
There was a full five seconds of stunned silence before someone awkwardly cleared their throat.
I blacked out, stopped sharing, and just… kept reading my update like nothing happened.
