Boss obsession with burnout

after working 12 hour days my boss told me “you don’t get burnout if you love the grind” while i was actively covering three roles and skipping lunch. why is this normalized im not investing that much energy to a company thats not even mine

Man, I hear you. I’m 35, nothing flashy, just trying to make it through the week without losing my mind and when I heard “you don’t get burnout if you love the grind”, I almost laughed. Or cried. Hard to tell these days.

I was covering three roles, skipping lunch, answering emails at night, basically being a human duct tape roll for the company. Meanwhile, my boss says that like it’s some motivational poster instead of a red flag.

Why is this normalized? Because somewhere along the way, we let hustle culture replace basic respect. Companies started treating burnout like a badge of honor instead of a warning sign. We got gaslit into thinking self-neglect equals loyalty, and if you push back, suddenly you’re “not a team player.”

Agree with anon here, its the company gaslighting us. I say only put into a company what the company puts into you, at least as far as possible. My company often makes me work 12h shifts and I have to go with it but theyre getting what they get when making someone work for 12 hours straight
