Told a coworker to stop messaging me after hours

So this guy on my team kept Slacking me at like 9, 10pm. Nothing urgent, just random “quick questions” that could easily wait until morning. I finally told him, nicely, “Hey, can we keep stuff during hours?” He said sure, but now I’m getting iced out of projects. My manager told me in our 1:1 that I need to “be more collaborative and available,” even though I work my full hours and respond quickly during the day.

You’re not the problem. They’re just being petty that they don’t have access to you 24/7. I would keep track of all the times you are collaborative so you can bring it up during your Performance Review. If your boss mentions it again, ask them for specifics on how to go about it. Guaranteed they’ll say something along the lines of what you already have done, then point it out to them.

I think you’re the same person that asked about a raise, so I would highlight your dedication to the team (even if it’s not true) along with your other strengths and pinpoint how much you bring to the company. Find out what your pay should be and be willing to work out a deal with your boss in case they don’t go that high. Worst thing they can say is no, at least you would have your answer and can decide what to do from there. Hopefully it all works out!

This is really good advice. I have issues standing up for myself. Thank you.

I would talk to your manager about it if it keeps on happening. If they don’t respect your very reasonable boundaries, that’s not on you.
