When I interviewed for my last job, the hiring manager casually mentioned,
“We work hard and play hard… emphasis on work.”
I laughed. They laughed. I thought it was just interview fluff.
Cut to three months in:
- My “training period” was 80-hour weeks.
- “Optional” weekend work turned out to mean “if you don’t show up, don’t bother coming Monday.”
- PTO requests were treated like personal insults. (“You’re taking time off? Must be nice.”)
I ignored every flashing red flag because the title sounded impressive and the pay was decent. Moral of the story, If someone tells you up front they’re a workaholic…
believe them and run.
